Leaving the rainforest behind, you’ll step onto the vast Shira Plateau. Daylight brings breathtaking panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s volcanic cones. Your destination is the Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll spend the night amidst the rugged beauty of the plateau.
Proper acclimatization is key to a successful Kilimanjaro ascent. Spend an extra day at Shira 2 Camp to adapt to the altitude and prepare your body for the challenges ahead.
Today’s trek takes you to the Lava Tower, an imposing volcanic formation. Although you won’t sleep here, the altitude gain and descent will aid in acclimatization. You’ll then descend to Barranco Camp for a well-deserved rest.
